On Tuesday night CSUN PRSSA had the opportunity to listen to guest speaker Lindsey Mee from BLAZE PR. She was brilliant and very informative, sharing her insight and enthusiasm for the food industry, along with her backstory of how she got to BLAZE PR.
Utilizing a PowerPoint, she showed the attendees of the meeting how she became involved with PR and eventually Food PR. Regarding food PR she shared how exciting working with clients can be, and the environment it creates when the companies are new. Setting up intro dinners to preview the restaurant and food, alongside inviting the various food bloggers to share their insight. Mee stressed the importance of inviting bloggers in order to build clients and gain attention on the new restaurants.
She also received questions from our peers, such as: “What does a normal work day look like for you?” We all know how important this question is, especially for those of us whom are millennials.
The answer: “It’s definitely not a 9-5 job.”
If someone is interested in being involved with food PR, you have to consider what type of “pond” you want to be in. Mee had mentioned that you can either work for a large corporation or you can work for a smaller boutique company. She had mentioned that her “pond” was boutique, meaning that she rather be a big fish in a small pond rather than a small fish in a big pond. In my personal opinion I think either “pond” would be good, as long as you are swimming.
